A passer-by saw the hikers in the way of their journey and asked if they needed a ride back to the house, where Decareaux‘s wife and their three other children who were aged 12, 4 and 2 were staying. But Decareaux said no, telling the man they could walk back, Volner said. Decareaux was a loving father and an experienced hiker. Education. C. Sports. D. News. E Women make better drivers than men for many reasons. Why is that? If you ask me, I‘d like to say, men know that women are better drivers but do not have the courage to admit the truth—women are queens of the road. Unlike men, women stop for directions when they have no idea as to where they are going. We don‘t drive around for hours pointlessly wasting a tank of gas only to find ourselves heading in the wrong direction. Have you ever been in a car with a man who is lost? He tells you to shut up when you begin to open your mouth. And every five minutes or so he takes a turn going forty-five miles per hour only to find out he‘s made another wrong turn. Speeding is what men do best on the road. There is a reason why men get more speeding tickets than women. Not because we trick to get out of tickets but only because we don‘t get
pulled over as frequently. We don‘t speed. We have more intelligence than senselessly to put our own lives as well as the lives of others in danger. My largest issue with male drivers is how a majority of them drive with one hand on the wheel and the other hand doing only God knows what. The seat is backed as far as possible, and they‘re totally lost into loud music beyond a necessary level. You don‘t ever see women driving like that. I feel that the above evidence more than proves my points that women are not only better drivers but also safer drivers than men. We women rule the road. Oh, and men, if you want to continue criticizing (批评) women for being bad drivers, bring it on. 72. If a woman driver feels lost, she will __________. A. tell the man next to her to shut up B. take the wrong turns at a high speed C. stop the car and ask people for help D. drive aimlessly for hours without stopping 73. In Paragraph 3, the writer tries to tell us that __________. A. women drivers often play tricks on the police in charge B. men drivers usually have to be pulled over to the roadsides C. men drivers are more confident and skillful in driving D. women drivers have more responsibility for lives 74. According to the passage, men drivers __________ worries the writer most. A. not paying full attention B. making jokes about women C. not stopping for directions D. getting more speeding tickets 75. Which of the following shows the structure of the passage? A B C D ① ① ② ③ ④ ① ① ② ② ③ ④ ③ ② ③ ④ ⑤ ⑤ ⑤ ④ ⑤ (①=paragraph 1； ②=paragraph 2； ③=paragraph 3； ④=paragraph 4； ⑤ =paragraph Comparing ourselves with others comes naturally to a lot of us. It is a thing we develop early on in our lives. Remember how our teachers used to describe the head boy or girl as the role model for all of us? We were expected to be like them. Even at home, comparison with brothers and sisters were unavoidable. Unfortunately, comparing ourselves with others is harmful to us. It can take away our individuality (个性) because it forces us to do things we ideally don‘t want to do and makes it difficult for us to think in a realistic （现实的） way. Comparison can also cause envy and jealousy. For example, it often happens the moment we come to know that a relative has bought a new car,
then a feeling of envy hits us. Worse still, when we compare ourselves with others, we subconsciously（潜意识地） place limits on what we can possibly achieve. Therefore, it is necessary to stop comparing ourselves with theirs. So firstly we should love ourselves for who we are. Accepting ourselves with all our flaws （缺点） is necessary if we really want to experience inner peace and calmness. Being content with what we have does not mean that we shy away from taking any steps to improve our skills. What it means is that we set realistic goals for ourselves, and work towards them. To stop making comparisons, it is also a good idea to appreciate the people we always compare ourselves with. Saying bad words behind their backs may make us feel good for some time, but if we look at it practically, we end up achieving nothing out of it. Instead, we can bring about a positive change in our attitude by praising the virtues（优点） of our friends, colleagues and relatives. Topic Introduction Stop comparing ourselves with other people. *It is (76) ______ to compare ourselves with others. *As a child, we began to be compared with others at school and at home. of *Making us lose our individuality by forcing us to do what we (78) ______ and think unrealistically *Making us envious and (79) ______ of others for what they have *Placing (80) ______ on us Being ourselves * (81) ______our flaws to feel peaceful and calm *Being (82) ______ with what we have to set realistic goals and achieve them *Not saying bad words behind others‘ backs just to get a good (84) ______ *Treating others positively by (85) ______ their virtues
